Dr. Nil Yazar Alpay

Education and specialty training

Born in İskenderun, Dr. Nil Yazar Alpay completed her medical degree at Kocaeli University Faculty of Medicine. She completed her pediatric residency between 2013 and 2017 at Zeynep Kamil Women and Children's Diseases Training and Research Hospital in Istanbul, one of Türkiye's long-established children's hospitals. During this time she gained extensive clinical experience in the newborn intensive care unit, the pediatric emergency department and general pediatric wards.

Professional experience

After completing her specialty training, she worked as a pediatrician at state hospitals in Hakkâri, Sakarya and İskenderun. This work involved caring for families from very different social and economic backgrounds, seeing how preventive child health services work in practice, and running busy outpatient clinics.

Since 2023 she has been working at the Pediatrics Outpatient Clinic of Özel Olimpos Hastanesi (Olimpos Private Hospital) in Konyaaltı, Antalya.

Clinical approach

Dr. Nil Yazar Alpay's way of caring for children is built on three principles:

• Evidence-based care. Decisions on diagnosis, follow-up and treatment are based on the current guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO), the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the Turkish Ministry of Health and the relevant professional societies.
• Avoiding unnecessary medicines. Most childhood infections are caused by viruses and get better on their own. Antibiotics are planned only when they are truly needed, after an examination and any necessary tests.
• Decisions made together with the family. What parents notice at home is part of the diagnosis. Each visit is a conversation in which the family's questions are answered and which ends with a plan that can realistically be followed at home.

Areas of interest

Alongside general pediatric care, she has a particular interest in breastfeeding support, a holistic approach to child health and social pediatrics. Each of these is treated as a framework that complements standard child health care, not as a replacement for it.
